Editorial policy

Everything in the Baby Soma journal is written by our own editorial team. This page explains how those guides are produced, what they rest on, and where the line runs between practical guidance and medical advice.

Who writes these guides

The guides are written and edited by the Baby Soma team - the same people who build the app. We are not a clinic and we do not employ a pediatrician on staff. When an article carries a named author, that is a real person; when it does not, the publisher is Baby Soma as an organisation, and that is exactly what our structured data says.

We deliberately do not invent expert bylines. A guide signed by a fictional specialist would read better and mean less.

What the guidance is based on

Two things. First, public guidance from recognised health bodies - the sources listed below. Second, aggregated, anonymised patterns from sleep logged in Baby Soma: how long wake windows actually run at a given age, how nap transitions tend to unfold, when night wakings usually cluster. Aggregated means totals across many families, never one family’s data.

Where the two disagree, the health-body guidance wins and we say so in the text. Where a claim is contested or the evidence is thin, we write that plainly instead of picking a side.

What this is not

None of it is medical advice, a diagnosis, or a treatment plan. Sleep guidance assumes a healthy baby developing normally. Anything involving breathing, feeding difficulty, weight loss, fever, unusual lethargy or a sudden change in behaviour belongs with a doctor the same day - no article and no app can triage that.

On safe sleep specifically we do not improvise: we follow the official recommendations and link to them rather than paraphrasing them loosely.

How we update and correct

Every article shows its publication date, and an updated date once it has been substantively revised. We update a guide when the underlying recommendation changes, when our aggregated data shifts the practical numbers, or when a reader shows us we got something wrong.

Corrections are not silent. If a factual error made it into a published guide, we fix the text and note the change on the article.

Independence

We do not accept paid placements, sponsored articles, or affiliate product links in the journal. Baby Soma earns money from its own subscriptions, and nothing else. Product mentions, when they appear, are there because the guide would be incomplete without them.
